How to patch

Here’s a screen by screen patch guide. I hope it helps! 😀

Make sure you have a clean rom and not a trimmed one, or you may get some errors! D:

Make sure you extract the .rar after you download it. You can use WinRAR to extract it 🙂

1. Click Open, next to the first box. (Underneath Patch)

2. Find the patch you downloaded and extracted. The extension will be .xdelta

3. Click the Open, next to the second box. (Underneath Source)

4. Find your Japanese rom of the game. You can put it in the same folder with the patch to make it easier to find.

5.  Click the “…” next to the third box. (Underneath Output)

6. Choose a spot for your English version. It can be anywhere you want. For easy access to it, choose the folder with the patch and Japanese rom or your desktop. After that, make a name for the patch and add “.nds” on the end, without the quotation marks.

7.  Click on Apply and wait a moment for it to patch. Try not to interrupt it or do anything on the computer until it’s done, in case it interferes with the patching. You’ll know it’s done when it says, “File patched successfully.”

8. Have fun playing it! ^_^

I don’t know if there are any DS emulators for the phone, but as long as it can play Nintendo DS ROMs, it should be playable.

i’m mac user and i tried using multi patch but it shows
“Invalid input. This typically means that the file you selected to patch is not the file your patch is intended for.”
    do u know wht’s wrong? :(( and my tgms2 rom’s size is 268,4mb. do u think that’s the problem?

      • December 16th, 2013

eventhough i tried redownload from any other sources that written 256mb, after it’s done, it always changes to >260mb. :((

      • January 5th, 2014

The rom should be 256 MB in size and after the patch is applied, it should actually be smaller in size, not increase. I would say, keep trying different clean roms. Other than that, I don’t know much about macs but perhaps try the wine program for macs.

Hi. Is the clean Japanese version included in the download or do we have to download it ourselves?

      • Phoenix Goddess

you have to find a clean rom on your own. just use google.

Did you do everything step by step? It’s easier to patch the game when everything is in the same folder.

Hello! Having a little trouble with applying the patch.
    Operating system: Windows 7 ultimate.

The rom is the correct size.
I have all the necessary files copied into a folder on my desktop.
After I apply the patch it gives me the window that says “patch is successful” but in stead of creating a patched rom with a .nds extension it creates a file with a .file extension, which isn’t playable.

I have patched the game succsessfully before so I can’t understand what I’m doing wrong now.

Haha I've already downloaded from at least 8 different sites, and yet I can't find it…
And to top it off I'm a mac user, and so things are a bit more difficult. I tried every single option for the mac users, and nothing worked. TT_TT

      • Phoenix Goddess
      • July 7th, 2012

It should be where you told it to send the new game to.
When it asks you where the patched game should go, put it within the same folder as the Japanese version and the patch or just choose your desktop.

Hello There…. I’m using an r4 with wood 1.46 firmware. When I press new game, my screen just goes black. Do I need to use an older firmware? Is the patch damaged? Is it my ROM? Please respond as soon as possible

O sorry. Just a little more info. I do have a 256mb rom so i don’t know what’s going on exactly

      • Have you tried running the game on an emulator like no$gba or desmume? If the rom runs, then it’s your r4’s problem. For now, I recommend you try out YSMenu, available here : http://wiki.gbatemp.net/wiki/YSMenu If it’s too much work for you, I think there are more user-friendly links in the Downloads > Others section. It solved a problem my R4i’s loading problems a while back, so it might be able to help yours. Good luck!

  2. help me please, theres a problem with the xdeltaUI , when i clicked the logo, it cant be opened then they says

    • Have you tried redownloading your ROM from elsewhere? Please make sure your ROM is exactly 256mb. If it’s any smaller, it’s trimmed and the patch won’t work on it.

Please help me . There’s a problem when i patch , i have followed the instruction above but there’s still an error accured .. It’s said “the system cannot find the file specified” . What’s wrong with this?

    • Are you sure you’re using the xdelta that we provided you and not from some place else?

Here’s the instructions again so you can check if you missed or did a step differently :

First, Google “Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 2nd Season rom”. Google should give you plenty of links to choose from. Once you’ve downloaded one, extract it with winrar. That’s a program too, so if Windows tells you it doesn’t know what to do with the .rar file, get Winrar. (Google this too, since it’s free)

Make sure the .nds file that you’ve extracted from the rar is 256mb.

Next, open the xdeltaUI mod that we’ve given you in the patch. There will be three sections, all with the OPEN/… button beside. Basically you click on them and select these.

Patch : Choose the .xdelta file that you’ve downloaded from us
Source file : Choose the ROM you downloaded
Output file : Choose somewhere you want your patched rom to be. For example, choose your desktop, and type in a name you want. E.g : TMGS2.nds

Hit apply. In a few minutes, you’ll find your TMGS2.nds on your desktop and ready to play! Please come back if you have any problem and we’ll try our best to help!

  3. when i made it and i made everything the patch size’s 0 KB ,why??!! what’s happend??!! please answer me… 😦

    • it’s ok now there is a website already translated the game (TMGS 2) (but not all the game half only….but it’s ok to me 🙂 ) here: kashdlasldlajkl.com

      -editted by Zydaline-

      • Sorry, Yaru Chan, but we’re not supposed to have ROM links posted here. As for that pre-patched rom, if it’s only halfway, it’s probably from the first patch and is missing the endings. I’d suggest you continue looking for a proper 256mb ROM – then you can enjoy the game to the fullest. (:

Just another irrelevant and kinda noobish question, concerning the Acekard 2i:I did the whole back up,format and updating procedure, but whenever I put it in the console,it says something about the Adv. or whatever not found. What exactly does that mean?Is there something worng I might be doing?I followed the instructions I found on a video at Youtube, and the result is this 😦

I tried to redownload the patch several times and also I tried downloading the v5 of the patch and the same thing happens. And I tried with other patch programs like xdelta UI (without mod) and xdelta GUI. It’s the same.

And I extracted the full .rar files.

    Hello!
¡HELP! I downloaded the patch v6 and extracted with winRAR, but when I want to start the Xdelta UI mod, my PC (which is windows) pop ups and error saying it cannot be started properly. What should I do?
(I have the correct 256mb japanese version.)

    Thanks!
(Sorry for my weird english, I’m a spanish speaker)

    • What does the error say? Have you tried redownloading the patch?

        • Phoenix Goddess
        • October 29th, 2011

Did you extract everything from the .rar? You can also try a computer restart.

        • Yura
        • October 30th, 2011

The error says (in spanish, but I translated it):

xdeltaUI mod.exe-Application error. (It’s the title of the pop up)

The application failed to initialize properly (0xc0000135).

      • Please try installing Microsoft .NET’s framework : http://www.microsoft.com/download/en/details.aspx?displaylang=en&id=22
After installing, try the v6 patch again with a clean ROM. =D
        Hope it works!

Hello, I’ve had a problem with Hikami’s dates freezing so I downloaded patch 5. I went through steps 1~6, but after clicking apply, I get a popup and a file that is 0 KB results. I put .nds at the end for the output file and my .nds and patch are in the same folder, do you know why this is happening? :c

this is the popup that comes out (and the 0KB file that comes out in the folder) after I click apply: http://i.imgur.com/0rOkk.png

    thanks for your time!

    • Sorry for the late reply! Here is what I found for you :

2:” xdelta.exe: expected from file (gsddu.nds) of length 268435456 bytes
This means your rom isn’t the right size. The patcher is looking for a specific size to patch so that it gets the offsets right. Your dump isn’t EXACTLY 268435456 bytes?

Perhaps you can try redownloading the rom? Look for one that’s exactly 256mb!

        • Gumi
        • October 7th, 2011

Ah, I got it to work now after I found one that’s 256mb. Thank you!

      • No problem, have fun with the game!

      • it’s like my problem but mine they say it’s complite but it’s 0 KB please tell me what i have to do?? (mine is V6)

The only three things I can think of is making sure your Cyclo DS firmware is up to date, formatting your card, and making sure you have enough space.

If you still have problems after doing all three, you can try asking the people at gbatemp. I have an Acekard, so I don’t know much about Cyclo DS flashcarts.

    • Is 233 mb the size of the archive or the rom? The size of the archive is often smaller than the rom due to compression, but the rom inside is generally 256mb. As for the problem with the patching, what problem do you face, exactly? Is there an error message of some kind?

    xdelta3:not a VCDIFF input:XD3_INVALID_INPUT
Hmmm, does it matter that I’m trying to put only the 6th patch?Should I have downloaded the first 5 and patch it up before trying the 6th part?I thought that maybe that was what I was wrong….

I’m not quite sure why you would be getting the error. Are you a mac user? The xdelta mod version is supposed to fix input issues. However, these may provide more help for you.

Also,I know it’s kinda stupid to ask,but I’m gonna do so anyway.I have TMGS1 english translated, and I want to transfer it to a nitnendo ds console I intend to buy. However,I heard this works with a flash cartridge only on ds and ds lite, but I seem to find only 3ds and dsi when I go shopping.Do you know if I can still transfer the game to these consoles too? Please and thank you~

Haha, I don’t let my siblings touch my “baby”.

I’m a little confused, but please bear with me. You have a copy of TMGS1 patched that I assume you played on an emulator, but you’re getting an NDS handheld and would like to know if you can play it on there, too? Some flashcarts work on the 3DS now(Note: You can’t play 3DS games on the flashcarts yet, but you can play your DS flashcart games on your 3DS). You can use a flashcart on a DSi, too. I have a DSi XL and an Acekard 2i if it helps you any.

So,I’ve done the steps one by one, paying extra attention to EVERY.SINGLE.WORD.And still, once I click “Patch”,it says invalid input or something? What on Earth am I doing wrong?!

    • To simplify matters :

      Start xdeltaUImod.

Patch : Select the .xdelta file you downloaded from Gokusaishiki here. (Tokimeki Memorial Girl’s Side 2nd Season V6 Patch.xdelta , for example.)
Source file : Select the Tokimeki Memorial 2nd Season rom you’ve downloaded from other sites.
Output : Select where you want the patched game to be at, and type in what name you want to save it as in the File Name section. Make sure to add a .nds behind it. For example, save it as TMGS2.nds

      Hope this helps! (:

*sigh*That’s what I do,and yet it says this:
        xdelta3:not a VCDIFF input:XD3_INVALID_INPUT
Hmmm, does it matter that I’m trying to put only the 6th patch?Should I have downloaded the first 5 and patch it up before trying the 6th part?I thought that maybe that was what I was wrong….

      • This is an unorthodox advice, I’ll ask PG about it later. But for now, try this? http://filetrip.net/f6934-xdelta-UI.html
It’s a different xdelta that I got from googling, so hopefully, it works.

And yes, putting only the 6th patch is the right way to go. Make sure the rom you’re feeding the xdelta is clean, unpatched. Hope this works! >A<

Where can I get a clean jp version x.x Been looking around and can’t seem to find any yet. I can’t apply the patch because I have one that’s already english patched.

Well I can find some but they aren’t 256MB Dx

… Okay I found the 256MB ones, but when I download them it comes out as 233MB. Also, the instructions are a bit confusing e.e; I’m still getting the expected error. Can the admin or whoever is in charge of updating the patch make a quick video tutorial? Or better screenshot tutorials… Or just upload a new fully patched version x.x; sorry making this so difficult.

    • Well, there’s a picture tutorial and a written tutorial step-by-step. A video wouldn’t make much difference because it would look just like the pictures.
It’s easy to find a 256 one if you word what you put into google right. Pretty much the title and just tag rom at the end.

    two questions:
1)I have the partly translated version of tmgs, is it still possible to use this patch? or do i have to dl the japanese version?

2)if i get the japanese version, can i use my save files from the english translated rom?

Thank you if you’d be able to help me. =)

    • Hey there!

      1. You’ll have to re-download the original Japanese rom and patch that one, unfortunately. Make sure it’s a 256mb clean one beforehand!

      2. I’m not sure if you can use it on the original Japanese rom (but should be possible) but you can use it with the fully translated patched game. Just make sure that your patched game has the same name with your .sav file. So if your game is named Pineapple.nds, your save file must also be Pineapple.sav

      Hope this helps! (:

      • When I was testing an ending freeze I used my Japanese save file, so I believe it’s possible since the words were in English 🙂

  4. Sauii :

is it possible to combine 2 save files together?

Not that I know of. Sorry 😦

If i already had a save file from the jap version game and I just patched one in english.. How can i keep the same save file?

    • You can continue using the same save file as long as the name of your game is the same as your save file. So if your game is named TMGS2.nds , your save file must be exactly TMGS2.sav

Then just start the game and it’ll register. (:

Hmmm I have a problem, when i patch the file with the japanese version i get a .nds file of 0 kb and which of course doesn’t work.. Any help on that matter?

I do get a message saying
xdelta.exe: expected from file (File name and place) of length 268435456kb

ps. run win7 on my pc

    • Did you put everything in the same folder? And followed the guide step by step?
Make sure your clean Japanese rom is 256MB. Anything smaller and it’ll most likely be trimmed, which won’t work. Also be sure to wait for it to say “Patched successfully”

“Pick the correct patch when pressing the first “Open.” And pick your CLEAN ROM when pressing the second “Open.” Press the “…” and name it whatever you want and choose a place to put it. Naming it, “You better work damn you.nds” also works, as long as it has *.nds at the end of it. Click apply and wait for 20 seconds or so for it to be fully patched. If you instantly close xDeltaUI mod when it was still trying to fully patch the rom, you will most likely get a 0Kb rom.”

Ah. Stupid me. I was wondering what went wrong since I can’t copy the patched file onto my flashkart. Good thing I saw this and realized I didn’t put .nds in the output file. >_<
    Thanks for this! ^_^
